Setting up Mail Rules for Microsoft Outlook Express
Microsoft Outlook Express has a feature that allows you to organize your e-mail as it downloads. This will allow you to
keep your inbox clear and route e-mail messages to separate folders for later viewing. The instructions below show you how to
set up a rule that will filter any spam e-mail messages flagged by Quantum's spam filtering service.
- Make sure that you are reading the proper instructions for your mail program. Click Help and select About
Microsoft Outlook Express. This will show you that you are indeed using Microsoft Outlook Express and tell you the
version that you are using. Click OK when finished.
- In Outlook Express, click Tools, go to Message Rules, and select Mail.
- You will notice that the window that you are now looking at is divided into three main panes. In Section 1, check the
option that reads When the Subject line contains specific words.
- In Section 3, click on contains specific words.
- Type *****SPAM***** in the top box, click Add, and then click OK.
- In Section 2, check the option that reads Move it to the specified folder.
- In Section 3, click specified folder.
- Click Local Folders to make sure that it is highlighted and then click New Folder.
- Enter Spam as the Folder Name and then click OK.
- Click OK at the Move Folders window.
- Back to the New Mail Rule window, click OK.
- Your rule is now created. Click OK to close the New Mail Rule window. Now any e-mail message with the
*****SPAM***** flag will be sort to your Spam folder.
